I was 13 when I learned that love for animals runs deeper than chores and feed schedules- it's about showing up, even in the middle of the night.
A man owed my dad money, but instead of cash he offered a stud horse-a full Appaloosa, white with black spots like a Dalmation. We bred him to my big black mare; I waited 11 months for that colt. As the due date neared, I's sneak out to the house and sleep in the barn, just to be there when it happened.
One night, during a wild Colorado storm, the colt was born. We named him Stormey and he was perfect.
That barn became my second home, it is where I learned patience, responsibility, and the quiet magic of being there when animals need you most. It's why Hall's Happy Tails exists today-to offer that same kind of care, presence, and love to every animal we meet.
